The inception of Kigezi Community Hospital started way back in 2017 when Dr. Asiimwe Joshua introduced the idea to Dr. Katunguka Johnson with whom they were running Dynamic Doctors Healthcare Ltd. The two were later joined by Dr. Musa Senteza with the help of numerous other stakeholders and the implementation started in mid-2018
The mindset of the founders was to contribute assets and pool money from themselves in addition to transporting themselves and providing professional services in person on a pro bono basis for as long as it took so that whatever profits were generated from the services provided would be reinvested back until the facility would be able to support itself. Not only did the sacrifice stop there but even various social, income generating and career goals in many forms had to be relinquished or deferred by each of the founders so as to set an unprecedented pace for this project.
With such kind of grit and determination, it was decided that the facility gets located in Market Cell of Kihihi Town Council Kanungu District as there was a relatively suitable building still under construction. Other requirements were acquired and the project began under the name Kigezi Community Medical Centre.
Since the founders were prepared to serve the community in the catchment area most of which was not well to do, some of the avenues of income generation such as Consultation fees were also strapped off from the whole concept of the project.
By the time of starting the facility only had 3 medical doctors who were the founders, a radiographer, 2 nurses, a laboratory assistant and 2 support staff. It soon added a Dental Unit which was run by a Public Health dental Officer and a Dental assistant. Since then, the staffing has grown to include specialists, other medical doctors, allied health professionals, more nurses and midwives.
Because the facility brought with it services that had been lacked by the people in the catchment area for long and in addition delivered tangible services compared to the frameworks that existed before, it receieved trust and support in terms of clients from the local people, CDCs and other local establishments. Many other health insurance companies also sought for or were approached by the founders for majorly the fundamental cause of ensuring that good health of the people in the area was ensured. All these modelled Kigezi Community Hospital into a reputable Hospital it is today
The facility started while it was renting operating premises in Market Cell Kihihi Town Ward Kihihi Town Council but subsequently constructed its own facility tailored to the needs of a health unit.
